List of favorite hikes:
FAYETTE STATION ROAD
Exploring Fayette Station Road is to travel back in time before the modern New River Gorge Bridge was built in 1977. This one-hundred-year-old road of hairpin turns winds down to the bottom of the gorge, across a narrow bridge, and up the other side.
Leave the parking lot of Bridge Walk and turn left onto Fayette Station Road. Go past the NPS Visitor Center and the gift shop. You will come to two stop signs. At each stop sign make a hard right. Follow signs that say State Route 82 or Fayette Station Road.
Fayette Station Road continues into the gorge passing under the New River Gorge Bridge. At the bottom of the gorge, cross over the reconstructed Fayette Station Bridge which reopened in 1998 as the Tunney Hunsaker Bridge. Fayette Station parking area is available across the wood plank bridge on the right, just before the overpass. The road winds back up Route 19 just north of Fayetteville. The entire trip takes about 25 minutes without stopping.
ENDLESS WALL TRAIL
The Endless Wall Trail hike parallels the gorge rim for a majority of its length. You will encounter many smaller branch trails to the right that lead to the gorge rim. These vantage points afford views of large portions of the gorge. The trail is approximately 2.37 miles from start to finish. Caution is recommended when approaching the cliff edge along the main or smaller branch trails.
Endless Wall Trail has two trailheads: one at Fern Creek parking, the other at Nuttall parking area. Leave the parking lot of Bridge Walk, turn right onto U.S. Route 19 North. Take the next right onto Lansing-Edmund Road. Follow this road for 1.3 miles to Fern Creek Trailhead parking area or reach the Nuttall parking area at 1.8 miles. Parking is NOT permitted on the roadway. You will be towed.
