The Outpost is located directly on the edge of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in Fayetteville, WV. Our property features direct trailhead access to the famous Bridge Trail, allowing you to enjoy a scenic, less-than-three-quarter-mile hike directly to the historic New River Gorge Bridge.

Yes! You can access the New River by hiking down Fayette Station Road or taking the connecting trail systems directly from our grounds. Please note that the hike down into the gorge is beautiful but steep and rugged, so proper hiking footwear is highly recommended.

Our beautiful mountain stream, Marr Creek, flows directly through The Outpost campground. While it is a peaceful, shallow creek perfect for wading, splashing, and cooling off your feet, it is not deep enough for swimming. For full swimming, paddleboarding, and boating, we recommend visiting nearby Summersville Lake or the public access points along the New River.

Closest swim near The Outpost at New River Gorge is at the bottom of Fayette Station Rd. Go up to US19 from the campground and make a left onto US19. Go over the New River Gorge bridge. After you cross the bridge, make your second right onto Lansing Edmond Road. Make your first right onto Fayette Station Rd and follow the road all the way to the bottom. After you cross the bridge at the bottom of Fayette Station Rd, there will be two parking lots. The first parking lot will put you above Fayette Station rapid and the second parking lot is below the Fayette Station rapid. You can swim at both places. However, the second parking lot has a bathroom and provides the best view of the New River Gorge Bridge. NOTE: the second parking lot is on your right; you'll need to cross over a small wooden bridge. When you're finished swimming, simply make a right out of the parking lot and the campground will be on the right at the top of the hill.

The Outpost does not directly run whitewater rafting trips, but we are located right next door to the premier rafting outfitters of West Virginia! We proudly partner with Adventures on the Gorge (AOTG) to offer our guests a convenient activity shuttle service ($5 roundtrip) and exclusive booking discounts so you can easily tackle the world-class rapids of the New and Gauley Rivers. Don't stress if you're arriving late to Fayetteville! If you will be arriving after our main office closes, we will set up a seamless late check-in. Your check-in packet—including your site map, vehicle parking passes, and gate codes—will be left in our designated late check-in box at the campground office.

We practice Leave No Trace principles to keep our West Virginia mountain home beautiful. Please dispose of all garbage in the designated trash bins located throughout the property.

Our guest laundry facilities are located at the bathhouse and are quarter-operated. If you need quarters, our main office and provision store will gladly help make change for you.

We do not have a traditional plastic or metal playground structure. Instead, we offer a massive, grassy Activity Field perfect for running and games, a temperature-controlled Activity Lodge stocked with indoor games and a TV, and a natural woodland setting with direct access to family-friendly hiking trails.

The Fayetteville Town Park is close by. The town park is located ½ mile from downtown on Park Drive (about 1 ½ mile from the campground). There are three ballfields, a basketball court, batting cage, skateboard park, paved pump track, splashpad, a health walking trail, four shelters and an indoor sports complex. Yes, adult guests are welcome to enjoy beer and wine around the campground. We just ask that you drink responsibly, be mindful of your neighboring campers, and stick to aluminum cans or plastic cups—no open glass bottles are permitted in common areas or near the event fields.

Your Outpost camp credit is valid for one full year from your cancellation date. It can be applied toward any future reservation for cabins, RV hookups, or tent campsites. To redeem your credit, simply call our booking office directly, and our team will apply it to your new stay.

Yes! We allow camping in any our sites during the winter and all RV sites are winterized for use. Also, our Rustic Cabins are NOT HEATED nor insulated, so this should be considered when winter camping. We're open year-round for the ultimate winter getaway near the New River Gorge.

We primarily cater to short-term vacationers, weekend adventurers, and weekly stays. We do not allow stays longer than 14 days. For inquiries regarding discounts on weekly stays please contact our office directly.

Yes! Our main entrance driveway on Fayette Station Road can be steep for certain low-clearance vehicles or long rigs. If you have a low-clearance truck bed railing or low hitch (less than 5" clearance), we have a designated 5th wheel entrance located just down the road. Please contact our office on your arrival day, and our team will provide specific directions on how to navigate this alternate route.

We offer three distinct RV camping options in Fayetteville, WV to fit your rig's needs:

Our Full Hookup RV sites offer 20, 30, and 50-amp power outlets. Our Partial Hookup RV sites provide 20 or 30-amp outlets. Be sure to check your specific site type when booking, or contact us if you have unique power requirements.

To preserve the natural landscaping and protect our grass, we do not allow tents to be pitched on the gravel pads of our RV sites. If you have guests traveling with you who prefer tent camping, we offer beautiful, designated Creekside Tent Sites and Field Camping right nearby.

Yes! Every single individual RV site, tent site, and cabin comes equipped with its own private fire pit and picnic table. Field Tent Camping guests have full access to our massive communal fire pits and shared picnic spaces.

Our Car Camping sites are standard 9x20 gravel parking spots (literally). They include access to free campground-wide Wi-Fi, our luxury climate-controlled bathhouse, hot outdoor showers, community picnic tables, gas grills, and shared fire pits. They are ideal for camper vans, rooftop tents, and car-dwellers.

We have communal gas grills located at both the Upper Outpost tent area and the Lower Outpost field camping meadow. Best of all, The Outpost provides the propane for free! You just need to bring your food and grilling utensils.

Our unique wooded tent platforms are elevated decks built right into the trees. They measure approximately 11’6” X 11’6” with ground fire pit (Patio) or 11’6” x 11’6” with 10’ x 14’ open space (Deck), providing a level, off-the-ground base that easily accommodates standard 4-to-6 person tents.

Because these are elevated wooden decks, standard metal or plastic ground stakes will not work. We have eye hooks installed around the platform to tie your tent roping too.

Hammocks are highly welcome! The best setups are at our Wooded Tent Platforms and our Upper and Lower Outpost Creekside tent sites, which are nestled under mature tree canopies. To protect the local West Virginia forest, we strictly require the use of wide, tree-saver hammock straps.

The following tent sites have trees available to set up your hammock: TS 19, 20, 21, 27, 28, 30, 31, 34, 35 and overflow tent sites 1 & 2.

Our Lower Outpost Creekside tent sites offer some shade and our Upper Outpost Tent sites TS07,TS12, TS15, TS17, TS18, TS19 and TS20 offer shade. Our Rustic Cabins 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 and Wooded Tent Platforms, are beautifully nestled beneath a dense forest canopy. Our Field Camping sites offer a more open-air, sunny meadow vibe.

Our budget-friendly Rustic Cabins (including Family, Big Family, and Bunk options) offer authentic mountain living with electricity, A/C, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and comfortable beds (linens not included)——but they do not have running water or indoor bathrooms. Guests staying in Rustic Cabins have full, 24/7 access to our luxury, climate-controlled bathhouse and high-pressure outdoor rainfall showers located just a short walk away.

Yes! From April until the end of October, our major event weekends (such as the Groove in the Gorge Music Series), a live music ticket is automatically included in your campsite or cabin reservation fee based on the number of registered guests on your booking. In the off season, November to end of March, our ticketed music events are NOT included and must be bought separately.

Yes, from April to the end of October because our campground transforms into an immersive music festival venue on major concert weekends, all accommodations booked during these dates include ticket access. However, if you have fewer guests staying at your site than originally reserved, please contact our office prior to arrival to request a partial ticket refund.

For most scheduled concerts at The Outpost, gates to the concert field open at 6:00 PM, our beverage bar opens at 5:30 PM, and the live music kicks off at 6:30 PM. Be sure to check your specific event schedule online as times can vary!

No. To ensure the safety of your pet and the comfort of our music fans, dogs are strictly prohibited in the main music field on Groove in the Gorge event days.

Crucial Rule: Our campground regulations strictly state that dogs cannot be left unattended in Rustic cabins or tied up at campsites unless owners are present. It also states that they must be crated if left in a Premium Cabin. If you plan to attend a concert, a member of your party must remain with your pet at your site, or you must arrange for off-site pet boarding during show hours.

Outside coolers, outside alcohol, and glass containers are not allowed in the main music event field. Don't worry, though—we feature an incredible selection of local West Virginia craft beers, specialty drinks, N/A drinks and local food trucks right inside the concert gates along with $1 water bottles and a free filtered water fill station in our Lodge! Bring your EMPTY water bottle with you.

No, camp chairs can be set up once the “doors” open and asked to not be in front of the Front of House tent. All tents, lawn chairs, easy-ups, and other camping furniture are strictly prohibited within the music venue area for ticketed events (exceptions are made only if required for a documented medical disability). Plan to bring a camp chair, small blanket, or simply enjoy dancing under the stars!

The Outpost features an on-site provision shop stocked with basic camp necessities, ice, firewood, beer, seltzers (alcoholic, N/A and THC) and snacks. For full grocery shopping, we are located just a 5-minute drive (less than 3 miles) from the historic district of Fayetteville, WV, which features a local Kroger, a Wal-Mart Supercenter, gas stations, and a fantastic lineup of local restaurants and outdoor gear shops.

We do not sell licenses directly on-site. You can easily purchase your West Virginia fishing license online through the WV DNR website, or visit local Fayetteville outfitters just down the road to buy live bait and gear.

The Outpost is the ultimate basecamp for hikers! We are located within a 10-to-15-minute drive of the area's most famous hiking trails, including the Endless Wall Trail, Long Point Trail, and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center. You can also access the Bridge Trail directly from our campground property.

To protect our pristine West Virginia forests from destructive invasive pests like the Emerald Ash Borer, the importation of outside firewood is strictly prohibited. We sell locally sourced, kiln-dried firewood bundle packages at our main office and provision store for your convenience.

Yes! Unlike many deep-gorge areas where signal completely drops, The Outpost features free, high-speed campground-wide Wi-Fi. Cell service (particularly Verizon and AT&T) is generally strong on our ridge, though signal strength can naturally fluctuate down by Marr Creek or inside the deep forest canopy.

Yes, to ensure all our guests enjoy a peaceful mountain evening, our official quiet hours are from 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM Friday – Saturday (Memorial Day Sunday, Labor Day Sunday and 4th of July if on Sunday or Monday). Quiet hours are extended for all GITG music events, please check the event page. The use of external generators is strictly prohibited at all times (our RV sites feature reliable 20, 30, and 50-amp shore power hookups to keep your rig running quietly).
